Stage Drapes (Cloths) - Flame Retardant Standards

DFR (Durable Flame Retardant) fabrics are chemically treated to a finish that will withstand a number of cleanings.
NDFR (Non Durable Flame Retardant) fabrics are chemically treated with a water soluble solution. If wetted in any way, it is essential to re-treat the fabric to meet flammability requirements. This may also apply after cleaning or a long period of use in a high humidity atmosphere.
IFR (Inherently Flame Retardant) fabrics are woven from a high percentage of yarns or fibres that are flame retardant. It is the chemical make up of the raw fibre and not an after treatment to the cloth that renders the finish flame retardant.

"Made to Measure" curtains

KAVE Theatre Services provide a full curtain make up service which can include visiting your premises to measure up width and drop and give advice on the most appropriate materials.
A wide variety of cloths are available including high density dim-out for sunny windows, velevts for proscenium arches and bolton twill or wool serge for on stage drapes, all in a choice of colours.
The information we will need before quoting you for your curtains includes:
Width = Be sure to include overlap.
Drop = The distance from the curtain eyes to the floor.
Fullness = The amount of material gathered up with the width, commonly between 50% & 100%.
Header = Whether the fullness is on a rufflette tape with draw strings (domestic) or sewn in (professional).
Hooks & Tapes = Sewn in tab hooks or tie tapes for professional curtains or rufflette hooks for smaller drops.
Base = Will your curtain need chain weighting.
Finally = The choice of material. We will be happy to lend you swatches with sample colours.

Roller Backdrop

The roller backdrop system is the ideal way to have multiple backdrops where no fly tower exists. Compact and simple to use, the backdrop is fixed to an overhead pole at the top (not supplied) and a 6" barrel at the base around which the backdrop is wound.
A system of rope and pulleys enables the operator to lower in a backdrop quickly and easily whilst storing the cloth closed and wound round the 6" barrel for overhead storage.
